Brooklyn Workforce Innovations (BWI) --a nonprofit organization-- is now accepting applications for The Office Cycle of the "Made in NY" Production Assistant Training Program. This free four week job training program provides: full-time hands-on skills training taught by industry professionals; Two years of job placement assistance and Certification as a "Made in NY" Production Assistant through a partnership with the New York City Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting.
Training will take place in late February 2012. No previous production experience is required. There is no educational requirement.
What is an Office PA?
An office production assistant (Office PA) provides support to the production office of a movie, TV show, commercial, music video or production company. As an Office PA you may
Answer phones, and take and relay messages
Prepare and handle paperwork
Read and send emails
Run errands for the rest of the production team, including producers
Set up a production office, including ordering office supplies and moving boxes and furniture
Office PA is the entry level position for the career path in the TV and film production industry that leads to positions like Assistant Production Office Coordinator, Production Coordinator, Production Secretary, Producer's Assistant and, in some cases, Producer. After working as an Office PA for one to several years to gain experience and connections, you can move up into more skilled positions.

Office PA Cycle Requirements:
To be eligible for this position you must:
Be a New York City Resident [This program is only open to individuals who can prove residency within the five boroughs of NYC for the past 6months or more-NO EXCEPTIONS]
Be at least 21 years old & legally eligible to work in the U.S.
Have a valid Driver's License (no exceptions -- you may be asked to drive during job placement) All interested applicants must have a valid driver's license at the time of their application. Out of State licenses accepted.
Be available full-time and able to attend training Monday -- Friday 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Be able to make a two-year commitment to working in the industry in the production office in particular
Be unemployed or low-income
Be able to pass a basic reading/writing, math and computer literacy exam
Have administrative and customer service experience (or relevant skills)
Please do not apply if you are employed full-time or enrolled in school, or plan to enroll in school in the next two years.
