Galapagos Art Space seeks: Corporate and Special Events SALES and PRODUCTION Manager.

Location: DUMBO, Brooklyn

Role reports to: Director Galapagos Art Space, Finance Director Galapagos Art Space

Role interacts with: Program Director, Facilities Manager, Bar Manager, Technical Director

Hours: Full time with the ability to work nights and weekends at scheduled events is required.

Position Overview:

Weddings, Corporate and Private Events constitute an important revenue stream for Galapagos Art Space. The successful SALE and MANAGEMENT of these events helps Galapagos maintain and enhance its ability to remain an independent cultural venue, one that plays an important role in incubating the emerged to mid-career artists, thinkers and projects that are a rich part of New York City's cultural ecosystem.

Responsibilities.

The Special Events Directors diverse responsibilities include:

- Create leads in the corporate community

- Handle initial inquiries over phone and e-mail

- Give corporate clients and couples tours and answer questions

- Negotiate and finalize contracts with corporate clients and couples

- Maintain a billing schedule to collect final deposits and upgrades from clients

- Maintain e-mail correspondence with clients to answer questions or direct them to appropriate department

- Establish vendor contact and brief vendors on venue policies and day-of schedules

- Maintain relationships with other Galapagos Art Space departments for an exchange of ideas and best practices

- Maintain a "Sales to Ceremony to Thank You to Photo Collection to Posted Review" relationship with wedding clients including wedding planning, timelines and seating plans with couples and clearly communicate these plans to all vendors and Galapagos staff and be present the day of the event to liaise with the client and manage the wedding, facilitate the ceremony and be the point person for the couple on their most important day

Qualifications:

The qualified candidate will possess a bachelor's degree, as well as a minimum of FIVE YEARS special event SALES / wedding planning / corporate planning experience.

- The Special Events Director will have strong project management experience and excellent organizational skills.

- Extraordinary interpersonal skills - you will be in a position to put potential clients at ease and in some cases to assuage wedding day jitters

- The ability to work nights and on some weekends at scheduled events is required.

- Proficiency in MS Office, Excel, etc.

Company Description:

Galapagos Art Space is a 9,000 sq ft, 250 person capacity Obie Award winning cultural venue located in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Galapagos is about to become the city's first LEED certified agreena cultural venue, and we have a 1600 sq ft lake inside our building, with island seating on the lake.

We present and co-produce music, cabaret, dance, theater, science programming, lecture and ideas programs, partner programs with other cultural or idea organizations, multiple-bill programs with independent artists, and fundraising events. Galapagos' resident artist program currently has sixteen artists or projects in residence.

Galapagos Art Space recently opened Kunsthalle Galapagos, an 1,800 square foot gallery project on our second floor.
